University education for a nurse within the global framework gives recognition to the professional requirement and challenges of responding to health and health care needs of diverse populations with different health care needs. The professional nurse with university education acquires appropriate knowledge to drive his/her competencies to provide quality care based on new evidence in meeting individual and group health care needs within the lifecycle framework.
The training and knowledge required for this can not be complete without the nurses having to sit for and pass different professional examination to test their readiness and knowledge to deliver quality health care in line with best international practices.
One of those professional examination is the “Nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria” examination
Students from the department of Nursing science, Osun State University, have seen a 100% success rate in this examination. This means that all of the nurses who sat for the examination from Osun State University, passed with flying colours. A feat which is unusual in the history of the midwifery council. This is not just a great feat, it’s also one worth recognition and high praises.
The examination which was held from March 10 to March 12, 2020, had in participation all nursing students in the country that hopes to be certified into the midwifery council.
Nursing Science has being one of the courses proposed for the College of Health Sciences, UNIOSUN, at the point of establishment. But the decision to run the programme was actualized in 2014 when the National Universities Commission (NUC) was invited and visited for “Resource Verification” to confirm the preparedness of the University to mount the programme.
The present set of nurses were the pioneer students of the department of Nursing Science, UNIOSUN. We therefore use this opportunity to join their friends and family to offer our congratulations and pray that may they be successful in their vocation ahead and may all of their academic efforts not be in vain.
